Humpback Whales
"And it finally happened! I got to scuba dive with whales today! I can't shut up and I can't stop glowing about it. Two whales, a baby and it's mother directly below me at the Corsair. I was just finishing my safety stop. I dove back down to 30ft and they cruised past at 90ft. The sound shook my insides. And that's why we start our ascent with 1000psi. Just in case something really neat comes by while you're coming up :)" - Ryan - Divemaster at Aarons Dive Shop
During this time of year Humpback Whales travel up to 4,000 miles here from the coast of Alaska. They come to our waters to mate and bear their young.
While they are hear we are blessed to see amazing acrobatic displays. They can be seen ʻbreachingʻ where the entire body comes up out of the water, flukes slapping the water, & young being brought to the surface.
We can hear them singing while we are on our dives. They can be heard up to 4 miles away. It is believed only the males sing - although it is not known why. Perhaps to attract a female or to communicate with others in the pod
